Churches’ Missional Engagement during the Pandemic and afterwards in Korea

Bokyoung Park’s article explores the ways churches in Korea engaged in mission during the Covid19 pandemic.

Restrictions on the way churches could gather caused challenges for the church, which is based upon in-person gatherings. The pandemic caused a shift to different forms of hospitality and missional engagement.

Park was motivated to do this research as she saw the suffering of churches during the pandemic, as well as the unique way they responded to the pandemic. To undertake this research, Park interviewed the ministers of local congregations and examined programs utilised in the churches.

Park suggests three ways churches can engage with mission in 2023 and beyond: engaging personal fellowship with narratives, performing a habitual ethical lifestyle, and embracing the practice of hospitality.

Park’s research continues, she is hoping to explore the idea of ‘hospitality as mission’ and exploring the formation of Korean missiology.
